Some say that the very first stock car racers were bad-boy moonshine runners from the 1920’s prohibition era. These original outlaws banded together and started a sport that has evolved into a widely-loved obsession for thousands of racers as well as spectators.
The term “stock” was created in the formative years – race cars were required to be stock models sold to the general public. In fact, racers often drove their cars to events. Quite a contrast to today's 200+ mph customized powerhouses.
